History Mind Maps

Fourth Year has created mind maps showing the events of the invasion of the Ruhr in the Weimar Republic. They went over them with their classmates in a informal learning environment. This helped revise and clear all remaining doubts.

Round Table Discussions in History

Long Discussions during the negociations of the Treaty of Versailles. Should Germany pay reparations? Must it be blamed for starting the war?

Some countries were just out to protect their own interests.  With Mateo as chairman, 4th year  acted out as spokepeople for the main countries involved. 

Levelling group students have been learning about  Ancient Egypt.  These are the "masterpieces" they have prepared. Awesome!!!!

Multiperspectivity in History

We have found an amusing way to go over the way different countries felt after-the First World War. We´ve attached speech bubbles with different Viewpoints to characters of each of the main countries involved creating a variety of artistic digital artworks.   Click on the image to see each one.

Exploring multiple perspectives (which is known as "multiperspectivity" in parts of Europe) requires incorporating source materials that reflect different views of a historical event.  As Ann Low-Beer explains, "In history, multiple perspectives are usual and have to be tested against evidence, and accounted for in judgments and conclusions."

A bit of American History

In 2nd year, we have speckled some American history and traditions along with our regular history syllabus.  In this way, we can find the connection between what is happening in England and in the United States.

A pre-set powerpoint is a fun and fast way of learning extra-curriculm information. Here the students were given a group of images and the Thanksgiving story to  put together.

Circle of Viewpoints : General Haig

Purpose: What kind of thinking does this routine encourage?

This routine helps students consider different and diverse perspectives involved in and around a topic. Understanding that people may think and feel differently about things is a key aspect of the Fairness Ideal. It is interesting to discover that a man that has been so highly scorned was highly thought of by his troops until the battle of Somme and that his infamous tactics had some justification.

Dramatizing the Family Tree

Two too many 
 2 Henrys  2 Elizabeths    2 Marys     and later on     2 James and 2 Charles
 How can we possibly remember them?

We dramatized the family tree!
Several of our students have taken important historical roles.
Jesus is Henry the VIII; Poli is the pope;  Guillermo was Arthur; Catherine was Mica;
 AnneB was Tati, Cata is Mary, and so on. It has made our history so much easier to remember!

Mind-mapping changes

The students of 3rd were given the task of researching in order to learn the changes that several countries underwent in the period before WWI. This gives our historians a better understanding of the differences that were arising in countries such as France, Russia, Germany, Japan among others.

By mindmapping the information we have researched, we can gather the most important data and present it in an informal, natural way. This is an overall exercise as it not only comprises comprehension and speaking skills with the listening skills of our audience, it also enables us to commit facts to memory. A sample of their work is shown below.

Making and studying through mind-maps

2nd history has prepared posters highlighting information of certain key questions. They have done this in their tables as groups. Later on , they have used this information to discuss each point and answer the questions in paragraph form individually. This leads to a general building up of ideas and concepts and is also a way of practising how to answer questions in a correctly written manner.

Zooming-In in our History Stories

We have been Zooming-In for a better grasp at history. We are following the story beside the history itself in order to be able to understand the causes and the consequences; hence we have arrived to a grammatical conclusion!
